I really like taking photos for families.  I get more joy from it than I do from just about anything else I make.  A lot of people have told me that I’ve created something in particular that has affected them positively.  That’s a great feeling.  It really is, but  I actually get to see that emotion in action when someone’s face lights up because I captured something important to them.  It’s the only time I feel like my photography is an active service and something I can do in life that helps people.
It’s not anything on some grand scale.  I’m not building a home or constructing a highway, but I do help turn memories into concrete.  The smallest parts of someone’s day today will be monumental for them tomorrow.  With that knowledge I can almost always capture something special.  When I have a photo shoot, I like to take pictures in between the posed and planned ones.  That’s where the real magic comes out.
Unlike anything else I make, the people I shoot photos for will have and cherish my work forever.  I’m not arrogant enough to believe that that love has anything to do with my work itself, but it’s important none-the-less.  When Logan is in his thirties, he can look back at this photo and his dad can say, “Dude, you really hated clothes back then.”
I like that fact a lot.
